Description and Requirements

Position Overview:
The Data Analyst will be responsible for conceptualizing developing data-driven risk solutions by
applying advanced analytical techniques. This person will play a critical role in Direct Marketing
team, developing rules and models to effectively detect risk and opportunities within the overall
portfolio. As our company grows and we build out our capabilities, this person will help build
systems to scale our business in an efficient manner as well as developing our long-term
roadmap for effective business risk and opportunity detection. The Data Analyst is expected to
thoroughly understand the payments domain, and frequently interact with analysts in the
business to understand the emerging trends in merchant profiles and translate those findings
into tangible solutions.

Your responsibilities would include:

  • Develop automated executive and management level portfolio reporting.
  • Support all departments in creating and maintaining operational reporting and analysis.
  • Perform ad hoc data analysis request and support the various stakeholders.
  • Assist in all lifecycle stages of development of a comprehensive reporting data mart.
  • Produce forecasting models, analysis, and recommendations to understand and mitigate potential vulnerabilities and highlight opportunities to the business.
  • Perform root–cause analysis to significant changes in KPIs.
  • Actively manage programs and strategies for effective detection of transaction risk within the overall merchant portfolio.
  • Drive initiatives and manage solutions to monitor and manage the portfolio.
  • Perform in-depth data analysis on merchant profiles of existing merchant accounts and prior activities to identify new actionable trends.
  • Implement and automate analytical solutions using scripting software or programs and generally smarter workflows.
  • Prepare and extract data from databases.
  • Analyze hundreds of variables covering a wide range of information from user profile to historical transaction data.
  • Identify emerging patterns and create new variables and select appropriate variable list to drive business optimization.
  • Partner with cross functional teams of analysts, analytical and product development resources to identify and promote new solutions and products that will improve the overall effectiveness of merchant monitoring and sales programs.
  • Collaborate with internal business and technology teams to identify and develop different data sources that can be applied in business decisioning. Work with technology teams to implement developed analytic solutions in a production environment.
  • Communicate complex concepts and the results of the analyses in a concise and effective manner to senior leadership and extended teams.
  • Perform ad hoc data analysis requests and other related assignments/projects as requested by management.
Skills and qualifications to have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, engineering, computer science or any related discipline required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • 1+ years of experiencein in an analytics, data-driven or payments industry role
  • Experience in creating advanced SQL queries (temp tables, case statements, inner vs. outer joins, and declared variables) and creating reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), preferred
  • Ability to create automated reporting using Business Intelligence tools such as IBM Cognos, reporting Services, or Tableau is preferred
  • A passion, and ability, to analyze very large, complex, multi-dimensional data sets and translate them into actionable reporting
  • Familiarity with card acquiring industry and credit risk is preferred
  • Self-directed and thrives in fast changing environment
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work both independently and as a team member
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Adaptable and flexible in responding to deadlines on assignments and workflow fluctuation
Tools:
  • Knowledge of SQL or other related programming language to code detection parameters into transaction monitoring system.
  • Knowledge of MS Office
  • Experience using programming and scripting languages such as Java, Python, Perl or Unix shell scripting is preferred
