Description and Requirements
The role of the Associate Linguist is to provide linguistic expertise for developing NLP tools for the target language. You will work on a number of tasks to improve natural language processing. The work takes place in Copenhagen but currently, due to Coronavirus, the work is being done remotely, but eventually full-time on-site presence will be required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Annotation
Creating grammar rules
Formulating language templates
Finding patterns
Evaluating existing data
Ideal candidates will have native level of fluency in Norwegian, higher education (BA, MA, MsC or studies in progress), and demonstrate some of the below:
Knowledge and experience
Solid and comprehensive understanding of the formal aspects of Norwegian (e.g. grammar, parts of speech, formal/casual/dialects)
Knowledge/awareness of linguistic terms and concepts
Working knowledge of complex tools, e.g. CMS, SQL, Advanced Excel/Sheets
Some knowledge of programming/coding (e.g. HTML, R, regular expressions)
Good understanding and interest in the current technology landscape: IT & computing, AI, machine learning, voice assistants, internet of things
Experience in testing, data processing, database management,
Formal linguistic education is a plus
Skills
Grasping technical concepts and learning new tools
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to work independently with confidence and little oversight
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Extra points for:
Experience using NLP tools and concepts
Experience in annotation work
Knowledge of formal linguistics
Full training on tools and processes to be used will be provided. Candidates must be ready to relocate to Copenhagen for this on-site position.
