OVERVIEW
The TELUS International Tax team provides critical expertise, consultation and counsel to the various entities and business groups, domestic and international, within TELUS International. As trusted advisors, we help support complex business transactions with insights and recommendations that influence decisions made by stakeholders and senior leaders. We are practical and creative, providing innovative solutions in our quest to be the leading global in-house Taxation team. As the Taxation Analyst, you will be an integral part of the TELUS International Tax team supporting the various entities of TELUS International in over 30 countries. You will participate in the development of Canadian income strategies to improve operational efficiencies, ensure compliance with tax laws and support tax audits. You will monitor Canadian income tax developments and implement changes to ensure timely compliance with new legislation. Reporting to the Senior Manager Taxation, the Analyst will support all aspects of Canadian income tax planning, compliance and income tax provisioning for TELUS International.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Reviewing and analyzing corporate financial records, researching and determining proper tax treatment for a wide variety of transactions
Assist with the preparation of the quarterly and annual consolidated income tax provision in support of financial reporting for a publicly traded company, including income tax forecast for the consolidated group as required
Preparing Canadian Federal and provincial income tax returns and forms, reviewing assessments and tax payments, including various foreign affiliate related items
Supporting internal controls related to tax compliance and reporting, including Sarbanes Oxley compliance
Research and pro-actively support a broad range of internal initiatives as they relate to corporate income tax including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, corporate reorganizations, process and efficiency initiatives
Actively support systems implementation and other projects with a view to streamlining and automating processes, improving efficiencies and optimizing taxation outcomes
Supporting audits conducted by taxation authorities including responding to audit queries, reviewing reassessment proposals, researching legislation, preparing position papers and filing Notices of Objection
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Valued for your minimum 2 to 5 years of Canadian income tax experience, in-depth income tax knowledge and strong technical competence
University degree and CPA designation
Successful completion of CPA Canada’s In-depth Tax program I and working towards year II
Ability to analyze complex issues and transactions including reviewing and researching technical tax materials and legislation
Engaging communicator with strong verbal and written communications skills and excellent interpersonal skills
Planner with the ability set objectives and goals, develop schedules, prioritize multiple activities, anticipate roadblocks and manage multiple deliverables to meet deadlines and goals in a fast-paced, complex and ever-changing environment
Ability to work as an effective team member, to work well in a cross-functional team environment, create and maintain strong working relationships across the TELUS International team and willingness to work toward required outcomes even under challenging circumstances
High degree of professionalism, integrity and ethics with a desire to learn and become a value-add team member, hands on approach to problem solving in a proactive and collaborative manner
GREAT-TO-HAVE:
Strong tax accounting knowledge
Proficiency in Taxprep, Microsoft Suite (e.g Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), and Google Workspace
Experience in international and/or multinational environment is an asset
