Telus International AI Data Solutions or TI AI for short, has been a global leader in data
services since 2005. Listed on Feb 21 on the NYSE, TI, now has a market cap of
$10Million+. With Playment’s acquisition on July 21, we now have a combined strength in
video, images, audio text labelling, serving the world’s top ML teams.
We’ve built a truly industry agnostic platform to support the growing needs of our
customers. Eg of our customer use cases - Automotive companies build self-driving
capabilities, Agriculture companies for identifying weeds & fruit picking, Insurance
companies for claim processing & damage detection, Retail companies for shelf tracking,
Drone/Satellite imagery for terrain analysis, E-commerce for cataloguing & visual object
understanding etc.

Why is it important?

High-quality training data is quintessential to improve the precision of ML algorithms. Forbes
lists ‘Autonomous Cars’ as one of the technology trends for the next decade and also
estimates ML engineers spent 70% of their time in pre/post-processing & data management

Companies need to build sophisticated tooling (supporting all forms of sensor data), hire
and manage hundreds of skilled people to ensure high-quality labelled data.
Our autonomous driving customers estimate 1 hour of video data needs 800 man-hours of
manual human work. Today, in the wake of the autonomous car industry only a few million
km of data has been labelled, and 10x more will be collected before the world sees them on
the road. Just as DevOps is critical to tech implementation, AI Ops will be a big challenge
as AI development commercialises in the next 5-10 years. We aim to become an AI data
platform, a critical part of the AI infrastructure stack.

How we work

At TI AI, We build in teams comprising of individuals with complementary skill sets - engineering, design & product management. Product managers define problem statements, designers & engineers solve them. Individuals work closely and iterate quickly.

The product design process has separate exploration and execution phases, Giving designers the freedom to explore the problem space, come up with creative solutions. We're not hiring you to convert wireframes into mockups, we want you to own and solve problems.

What we're looking for

  • Child-like curiosity - You are always trying to find out how stuff works, how humans think, why Apple is able to do what it's able to do... you try to understand The Design of Everyday Things!
  • Interface design skills - This might be obvious, but having a good grasp of layout techniques, navigation, typography, choosing colours, component-based design etc. is imperative to do your job.
  • A knack for systems thinking - You understand how complex systems (especially involving humans) work and how they can be influenced via design.
  • Experience doing similar work - If you've designed b2b SaaS software before, that's a huge plus, since you can hit the ground running.

What would your day job involve?

  • Solving user problemsTalking to users or their proxies (product managers, business teams, support reps) to understand user problems.
  • Designing mockups/prototypes, testing them with users and getting feedback.
  • Working with engineers to get your designs implemented.
  • Design LeadershipMaintaining and improving our Figma component libraries to support fast iteration.
  • Figuring out ways to improve designer productivity via tools & processes.
  • Continuously improving & advocate to uphold high design standards
  • MentorshipProviding critique and mentorship to other members of the Design team.

Requirements :

  • The equivalent of 3-5 years of experience as a Product or UXI designer at a startup
  • Any experience in b2b SaaS is great but not required
  • Past experience of managing direct reports is good to have

Additional Job Description

You will be responsible for product design across TI AI’s product surface area - Annotation tools, GT Studio, our website and sales-&-marketing collaterals. You will be individually responsible for solving some high impact user problems and also for coaching a team of 3-4 designers to help them do their best work.
