Description and Requirements

Position Overview:

As a Senior member of a national team providing operational support to TELUS International hosted cloud systems and our Services Delivery Infrastructure environment, you are a highly motivated and energetic individual with a minimum seven years server administration experience in a VMware ESXi environment (5.x/6.x/7.x).  In this role you will be responsible for providing operational technical support in both development and production environments.


  • In this role you will be responsible for system implementation, and the adoption of tools and standard operating procedures

  • Implementing and testing patches and system upgrades

  • Developing documentation, securing the environment, assuming system responsibilities

  • Providing support and resolving technical problems to a customer SLA 

  • Demonstrate excellent problem solving skills with a desire to take on new challenges quickly

  • Communicating directly with internal and external customers effectively and in a professional manner

  • Participate and lead in team projects to enhance the technical infrastructure or improve quality or efficiency of problem resolution process

  • Incorporate operations best practices (Automation, Repeatability, Security, and Recoverability)

  • Manages support activities of a private cloud environment providing Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) to external customers

Required Knowledge:

  • Intermediate to senior knowledge of x86 architecture (Intel, AMD)

  • Senior knowledge of VMWare ESXi server systems (5.x/6.x/7.x)

  • Skilled in server management including capacity planning and monitoring

  • Knowledge of ESXi/Windows security including patch deployment

  • Strong knowledge of virtualization concepts

  • Knowledge of TCP/IP Networks

  • Knowledge of networking concepts, specifically Dynamic routing, Firewalling, Load Balancing, ad VPN

  • Preferred experience with code development languages such as Java and Python as well as scripting knowledge in JavaScript and PowerCLI

  • Strong client service skills, comfortable interfacing with clients occasionally

  • Fluent in English (working knowledge of French an asset)

Required Professional Designation/Certification:

  • University degree in related field

  • VCP and ITIL Certification is an asset

  • Must be able to obtain Government of Canada Reliability Clearance status

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years server administration experience in a VMWare ESXi server environment

  • Previous experience in large enterprise environments is required

  • Previous experience in supporting customer hosted servers is an asset

  • Preferred experience with hyperscalar clouds

  • Experience supporting high availability, mission critical infrastructure
