Description and Requirements
As a member of the Database Services team, the MS SQL DBA (Database Administrator) will be responsible for supporting the operational elements of our customer’s database infrastructure as well as involved project delivery.
The DBA is a member of a national team responsible for the daily management and administration of a variety of database technologies mainly focused on MS SQL but not limited to it. The DBA's prime role is supporting the operational availability of these systems on a daily basis. The position requires excellent written and interpersonal skills to build relationships with external and internal clients at various levels. While your role is very technical in nature you will be called upon to discuss these matters to business minded individuals inside the customer’s organization.
Responsibilities:
Complete full cycle MS SQL instance/database management: software installation/patching; upgrade; configuration and deployment of instance/database; capacity planning; monitoring of capacity, availability, performance of the instance/database; performance analysis and tuning; backup, restore and recovery; setup replication and high availability; architect customized backup solutions; scripting jobs for automation; problem fix.
Interact with the developer community for project implementation and ongoing support
Take initiative to improve the performance, efficiency of the database assurance operation
Being cohesive to standard best practice and collaborate/coordinate with the DBA peers on change management, problem management and work management etc
Support other DBA/project activities; contribution to knowledge and experience sharing
Required Knowledge
Install/Setup and maintain MS SQL database software with updates/patches
Creating and maintaining database standards and policies
Supporting database design, creation, and testing activities
Managing the database availability and performance, including incident and problem management
Administering database objects to achieve optimum utilization
Defining and implementing event triggers that will alert on potential database performance or integrity issues
Performing database housekeeping, such as tuning, indexing, etc.
Monitoring usage, transaction volumes, response times, concurrency levels, etc.
Identifying reporting, and managing database security issues, audit trails, and forensics
Designing database backup, archiving, and storage strategy
Technical Skills
Over 5 years’ experience as a Database Administrator working with MS SQL server in enterprise capacity
Experience with Power BI
Good UNIX/Windows/VMware environment skills
Good analytical and problem solving skills
Good proactive planning skills and multi-tasking skills
Good English communication skills (written and verbal)
English Proficiency (75%)
Taking initiative and ownership, delivering quality and thorough services to customers
Excellent team worker and good performer under minimum supervision
Strong MS SQL database experience
