We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Database Developer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our PostgreSQL databases to support our Learning Management System (LMS) built in PHP. This role requires deep expertise in database design, optimization, administration and migration along with strong collaboration skills to work effectively with our development team.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop highly scalable and efficient database schemas.

• Create and maintain Entity-Relationship diagrams and database documentation.

• Write complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and functions to support application features.

• Optimize queries for performance and scalability.

• Implement indexing strategies to enhance query performance.

• Perform regular database maintenance tasks such as vacuuming and analysing tables.

• Monitor database performance and provide recommendations for improvements.

• Utilize PostgreSQL-specific features like JSONB, arrays, and extensions (e.g., PostGIS, pg_trgm).

• Manage and maintain PostgreSQL replication and backup strategies.

• Manage database security, including user roles and permissions.

• Ensure data integrity and implement robust backup and recovery processes.

• Handle database migrations and version control.

• Work closely with PHP developers to ensure seamless integration between the application and the database.

• Provide database expertise to front-end and back-end developers.

• Design and implement data aggregation, reporting, and analytics solutions.

• Develop complex reports and dashboards to support business needs.

Position Requirements

Formal Education & Certification

• Required: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer

• Engineering or similar technical discipline; or, equivalent demonstrable experience

• Preferable: Master’s degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline, or

equivalent demonstrable experience.

Knowledge & Experience

• 8+ years of experience as a Database Developer, with a focus on PostgreSQL required.

• Proficiency in SQL and PL/pgSQL

• Proven experience in designing and managing large-scale databases.

• Creating and maintaining database standards and policies

• Database design and Modelling (Schema design and ER Diagrams), creation, and testing activities

• SQL Proficiency: Query Writing and Data Manipulation- Expertise in INSERT, UPDATE,

• DELETE, and SELECT operations.

• PostgreSQL-Specific Knowledge (Data Types, Indexes, Extensions)

• Database Optimization and Performance Tuning (Query Optimization, Indexing, Vacuuming & Analysing)

• Database Administration: User Management, Backup & Recovery, Replication.

• Identifying reporting, and managing database security issues, audit trails, and forensics

• Development Environment Setup (Local Environment, Docker)
